Nature’s Bounty St. John’s Wort Tablets (Powder-filled Gel Caps)

0720141453Pros — You only have to take one instead of two Nature’s Bounty St. John’s Wort 300mg Tablets 3 times per day unlike other products. It’s a powder, so you could use it in tea with lemon or another drink if you can stand the taste. It also has less than 2 percent “other ingredients” (i.e. silica, gelatin and other preservatives) and has the widely-accepted standard mood-lifting Hypericin in it.

Cons — Only works for mild to moderate depression and anxiety; not recommended for severe depression, mania, hallucinations, paranoia or other symptoms. You could overdose if you don’t take it according to the bottle’s instructions, and statements on the bottle are not approved by the FDA. You also can’t use it with many hormonal contraceptives.

My Personal Experience

I originally bought my 100-capsule bottle for about $12, but I now see some vendors have it for as little as $6-7. One seller even offers it for just under $40 for a 4-pack – not a bad deal. It’s comparable to a brand I used to buy at Wal-Mart for about $8. However, prices change daily. To me, it works good for the price. It relieves my depression and anxiety. I’ve used this herb for years already (not always same brand but same substance).

0720141453Keep in mind, however, that I take the powder out of the gelatin casing it’s in and put it in my tea. I even found out it mixes okay in cold drinks, but it dissolves better in hot water. I’ll just warn you this product was originally meant for ingestion by mouth, though. I will not take responsibility for what happens if someone tries to drink it like a tea like I do and has problems.

I only use it as a tea to help it hit my bloodstream faster and so I can sip on it and feel the effects for longer. That way, I take no more than the recommended 3 capsules per day. I’m assuming most people in good physical health can take this product with no problem.

I used it according to the instructions many times over a two-decade period and noticed the difference when not using versus when using it. It seems to work well for me, especially for reducing anxiety.

Conclusion — My Opinion for Other Users

I’m an experience health writer who has used used natural supplements for years. However, I’m not a trained health professional. Therefore, I don’t know if this product will work for you. Therefore, it’s highly recommended you see a doctor if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or heart trouble before using it. It could affect on the liver and other internal organs, too.
